Ben's world is opening up!

We just had an amazing weekend with Ben. On Friday, it was beautiful here. It was the first time I was able to take Ben out for a walk in a long time. Because of his facial palsy, Ben always has so much trouble with the sun. Friday, the sun was so bright his sunglasses didn't give him enough protection. He was fussing and trying to hide his head in the stroller. I finally decided to put my sunglasses on top of his hoping that would help. It did and he just looked adorable. I took a picture with my phone so I could share. He is just too funny because he didn't mind them being on AT ALL! We also went swinging and down the slide for the first time (of course he layed down the slide). The slide really cracked Ben up. It was kind-of a scared laugh though.

Ben is also making HUGE progress with his implant. I got chocked up many times on Friday because Ben was hearing things I never thought he would hear or even respond to. He was noticing birds churping, hearing cars drive by (and following them as they drove past) and turned to watch geese fly over us. It was such a big moment for us!

We also had Ben's Aunt Theresa and Uncle Rich in town visiting for the weekend. It was great to see them.

Ben,

You look like your Great Grandma Fritz with those big glasses on. You are too, too cute and I can't wait to see you shoot down the slide. Your world is opening up by leaps and bounds and I couldn't be happier.

Love,
Grandma Deb

Ben, I dropped by to check on you through Max's blog.

Glad Mommy's sunglasses worked for you. And the slide, I'm sure you will get used to it in no time.

Keep up the good work,
Carolyn in WV

Ben, Your future is so bright that you need "big" sunglasses - and you are so cute in them.
Glad that you are doing well.

Ben...

You look like a movie star in those glasses. So glad you can get outside again for your walks, only this time you will be hearing along with seeing. Was jealous of Aunt Theresa this past weekend but I know I'll be seeing you in a few weeks.

Love you lots,
Gramma Mo

Uncle Aaron and Aunt Jen are so excited about the world opening up. We got to see you first hand go down that slide like a professional luge person. It was so cute.

We are so proud of you!

Love,
Uncle Aaron and Aunt Jen

What a great weekend, Ben! We're so happy that you're making such great progress with your implant--and really, so quickly, compared to most kids with CHARGE! I can certainly understand why your mommy is so happy.

Hugs,
Leslie and Katie

Ben,
Looks like we'll have to start calling you "Joe Cool" with those glasses on. Thanks Amy for keeping us updated. It seems like every time you post it's been positive, especially the news that the implants are working. Take care.

Love,
Chuck
