Ben is being shown pictures of the item with no words. He then signs the item and his interpreter has to guess what he is signing since she will eventually be interpreting what he is saying to hearing people. If his sign isn't exactly right, the interpreter then shows him the right way. You will also see how his trach is suctioned (done by his day nurse) and the device he is in is a stander (helps strengthen his legs and bone density).
Had a HUGE update post that I was going to include with this video; however, the computer gave an error code after including the video link at the end and I lost it all. Unfortunately I don't have the time to retype it all now nor do I remember what all I said...so a video is going to be it for now. :)

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!!!!
I am so impressed with how long Ben attended to that exercise! I LOVED watching him work! :-)
- Are the pictures cards you/teacher/team made? Are they pictures of "real" things or abstract drawing? When do they plan on adding in words for him?
- His tongue stimming reminds me SO MUCH of Gracie!
- How often does he get suctioned? Just curious...
- Speaking of suctioning... I have questions! I noticed that the nurse used a straight catheter (no sleeve) and yet she didn't wear gloves... so curious about this since that is a huge violation here. Can't do the plastic bag method, because hands touch all other parts of the catheter and then it goes back into the bag and is then considered "dirty." Totally fascinated by this difference!
- At the end, in the last minute, Ben gets distracted - - was it by the other kids voices? Or, does he sort of "check out" for a moment? I ask because Gracie does the same exact thing, but she's not distracted by voices (profoundly deaf, does not benefit from aids). In the middle of an activity, she takes a little break like that, then comes right back to what we were doing and proceeds... just like he did!
I'm going to watch this again... and again! :-)
So impressive, Amy! You must be thrilled!
I watched this video numerous times and each time it was just as great as the time before. Ben sure is concentrating on what he is doing. It's amazing what these little tykes can do. Sue
