Ben's road to recovery took a turn for the worst. He seemed to be recovering so well, but then Saturday night he had a really, really rough night. Sunday he continued to worsen as the day progressed and I was starting to worry he might have RSV or pneumonia. His respirations were very labored and fast, he was super tight in his chest and coughing was starting to turn into gasping for air episodes. He needed oxygen last night and we gave nebulizer treatments every four hours. Ben's Pediatrician's office (who is amazing and specializes in Special Need kids) not only agreed to see him first thing this morning even though they didn't have office hours until 1:00 p.m. today, they were also willing to go to the Children's Outpatient facility by us so we didn't have to take him downtown. We are so fortunate to have them on our team.
Ben, dad and our day nurse are still at Children's (I came down with a nasty cold yesterday and didn't want to expose Ben to anything else and I also feel pretty crummy... I'm climbing the walls not being at the doctor's with Ben.)
As I'm writing this, I just got a call from our Dr's Nurse Practitioner (NP). She said Ben has an ear infection (no big surprise since when he vomits it comes out his ears too). They are also getting a chest Xray to see if he has any pneumonia and sending his trach secretions to the lab to see if he has RSV. We should hear results of the Xray later today and the lab test will have preliminary results in 48 hours. They are starting him on oral antibiotics. I'm hoping we are now over the worst and Ben starts feeling better soon.
